Press release by Trustees of Living Hands Trust

The Living Hands Umbrella Trust and its trustees support the decision by the Supreme Court of Appeal to overturn the sentence handed down by the Western Cape High Court wherein, J Arthur Brown, former CEO of Fidentia had been sentenced to 36 months in prison or a
R 150 000.00 fine. The SCA sentenced Arthur Brown to 15 years imprisonment on each of the two fraud charges he pleaded guilty to. The LHUT welcomes this sentence and believes that it is due time for Brown to take his punishment for his actions that have impacted thousands of poor South- Africans. The South African Justice System has defended these affected people and restored a sense of justice.

Recovery of Losses:

The current trustees are trying to recover the loss on behalf of the beneficiaries, but such claim is still pending and the subject of litigation. The parties are still busy exchanging pleadings and once a trial date has been issued, it will be published on this website.

Beneficiaries may also contact the FSB call centre, which centre will only be in a position to check the status of beneficiaries pertaining to distributions and/or verification of documents. The centre will NOT be administering payments to beneficiaries. Beneficiaries who have been verified and paid should inform Squirrel of any change to their banking and contact details so that the database remains updated, for possible future distributions. No cash payments will be made from the offices of the trustees or service providers. The administration will be handled by Squirrel for the upkeep and maintenance of the database, and any further payments to verified beneficiaries.
